Герой – все та же одинокая фигура, он всегда трагически погибает в неравном бою. В этом весь дух самурайства. Говоря словами великой хроники самурайского героизма, «Хэйкэ моногатари»: «Звук колокола Гионсодза отражает непостоянство всех вещей. Цвет тикового дерева говорит о том, что тем, кто сейчас процветает, суждено пасть. Да, гордые живут лишь мгновение, как вечерний сон в разгар весны. И могучие в конце концов погибают; они лишь пыль, несомая ветром».
