Me 262 A-0

Prototype test aircraft fitted with two Jumo 004B turbojet engines with twenty-three built.

Me 262 A-1a

Production version, fighter and fighter-bomber.

Me 262 A-1a/R-1

Equipped with provisions for R4M air-to-air rockets.

Me 262 A-1a/U1

Single prototype with a total of six nose-mounted guns, two 20mm MG 151/20 cannons, two 30mm (1.18-inch) MK 103 cannons, and two 30mm (1.18-inch) MK 108 cannons.

Me 262 A-1a/U2

Single-seat night-fighter prototype with FuG 220 Lichtenstein SN2 90 MHz radar and Hirschgeweih antenna array.

Me 262 A-1a/U3

Reconnaissance version modified in small numbers, with Reihenbilder RB 20/30 cameras mounted in the nose, and occasionally one RB 20/20 and one RB 75/30.

Me 262 A-1a/U4

Bomber destroyer version with two prototypes fitted with the 50mm MK 214 or BK-5 antitank gun in the nose. Some pilots called it the “einhorn” (unicorn) or “nashorn” (rhinoceros). The extra weight made it easy prey for Allied escort fighters.

Heavy jet fighter with six 30mm (1.18-inch) MK 108s in the nose.

Me 262 A-1b

Only difference from the A-1a was the BMW 003 engines, with two examples known to have been built.

Me 262 C-1a

Single prototype configured from Me 262A WNr. 130 186 of rocket-boosted interceptor (Heimatschützer I) with the Walter HWK 109-509 rocket motor in the tail, first flown on February 27, 1945. Never mass produced.

Me 262 C-2b

Single prototype [made from Me 262A WNr. 170 074] of rocket-boosted interceptor (Heimatschützer II) with two BMW 003R dual powerplants with the early BMW 003 jet, with a single 1000-kilogram thrust BMW 718 rocket engine only flown on only one occasion on March 26, 1945. Never mass produced.

Me 262 C-3a

Design for the Heimatschützer III prototype of the rocket-boosted interceptor with Walter rocket, never produced.

Me 262 D-1

Proposed variant to carry heavy Jagdfaust under wing mortars, but not produced.

Me 262 E-1

Proposed heavy cannon-armed variant based upon the A-1a/U4 design.
