“Well, it’s working. I think you’re going to have your dance card full. Missy Stone was asking about you,” Tami said, and she saw my immediate interest. She started laughing. “I thought that might get your attention.”

“Tami, you have to keep her away from me. Tracy and I have something special going on, and I don’t want to mess up. I’m afraid of what might happen if Missy gets me alone.”

Tami could tell I was serious.

The band started playing and Jennie pulled me out on the dance floor. Being the first dance of the evening, only a few couples were dancing. The next dance was a slow dance. I saw red hair out of the corner of my eye and felt a hand tap my shoulder.

“Do you mind if I cut in?” asked the Wesleyan version of BMOC.

I looked at Jennie, and she nodded yes. I thought, ‘Here we go again.’ I could see she wanted this guy, so I claimed my jacket before I gave up my date. Missy was making a mistake, letting Jennie get her claws into her guy. Missy claimed me, and I carefully put my hands on her hips and tried to put some space between us. She was having none of it.

“Uh, Missy, I don’t think your boyfriend is going to like this.”

“Tanner and I are just friends,” Missy said, which made me groan. “I want you. Jennie can have Tanner and be Princess, but you’re mine.”

What just happened? I shook my head to clear my arousal, and then thoughts of Tracy came flooding back. I had to get out of this right now. There was no way I was cheating on her.

“A week ago I would’ve taken you up on your offer. I now have a girlfriend that I love with all my heart. I can’t do this. No matter how much I want you—and I do—I just can’t do it.”

Thank God, Tami had paid attention. She ran out and pulled me off the dance floor, leaving Missy in a daze. She took me outside so I could use the cold air to clear my head. She looked at me with concern.

“Are you okay?”

“Hell, no. You know me and redheads. She is frickin’ hot, hot, hot. Please tell me she’s an evil bitch.”

“Sorry, lover, she’d be perfect for you,” Tami said as my phone went off. It was Tracy.

“Hey stud, I hear you made an impression on the Queen of Wesleyan,” Tracy said; I gave Tami the evil eye.

She blushed because she had filled Tracy in.

“I guess you could say that.”

“Do you want permission to spend some quality time with her?” Tracy asked.

I didn’t have to think about that.

“No! That would be a very bad idea. Please don’t, I love you and only you. This would be different than just fun.”

She was quiet for a moment.

“I love you, and you just proved why again. Come home and you’ll find me waiting for you. Put Tami on.”

I handed the phone to Tami.

“You’re welcome. Yes, he is special. I will.”

She hung up and gave me a big hug.

“That was from Tracy. Come hang out with Trevor and me. I want you to get to know him, and not freak out if you see us together.”

I would rather go in for a root canal than hang out with Tami and her date, but she knew me too well to leave me alone. We went back in. Jennie was hanging all over Mr. BMOC, and Missy was nowhere to be found. The band stopped playing and Teddy was at the microphone.

“Before we announce the Prince and Princess of tonight’s dance, I wanted to thank a few people. First, I would like to thank the Dance Committee for all the decorations,” Teddy said, and waited for the applause to stop before he continued.

“Let’s give a big hand to the band, Sweet Surrender.”

“Now for what you’ve been waiting for.” Teddy pulled out an envelope and read the contents. “The Prince and Princess are ... David Dawson and Missy Stone.”

Oh damn, that’s not good. Tami gave me a push to get me moving. Jennie was giving me an evil look like it was my fault she didn’t win. I personally think it was her obvious play for Tanner that sank her chances. I went up on stage and Missy appeared out of nowhere on my arm.

“Congratulations,” Teddy said softly to both of us.

He put a silver circlet on each of our heads.

We went out to the dance floor, and the band started playing a slow song. We came together without a word and started to dance. She laid her head on my shoulder and pulled me close. We were oblivious to everyone else as we swayed to the music. I felt a tap on my shoulder; Tanner was there.

“Do you mind if I cut in?”

Missy looked at him.

“Tanner, go play with your new friend and leave us alone.”

His face went bright red as he pivoted, tried to muster his dignity and walked off. Jennie followed him out of the auditorium. When the dance ended, Missy handed me a piece of paper.

“If that girlfriend ever messes up and dumps you, call me. You know what, just call me anyway. I would very much like you to be my friend, even if we’re not more than that. Would you do that for me?”

I smiled at her and found Tami was right. She was a nice girl.

“Yes, I’d like that.”

As I walked off the dance floor, Cynthia indicated that I should join her.

“I didn’t want to believe you, but I can see my granddaughter needs to grow up. Thank you for not making a scene. I wouldn’t have had your self-control at your age.”

“I’d love to tell you that I was surprised, but that would be a lie; she didn’t surprise me. Don’t worry, we’re still friends.”

“That’s good to hear. I think my granddaughter needs friends like you,” Cynthia said as her parting comment.

I decided to have fun and spent the rest of the night dancing with anyone that wanted to. I think Tami somehow arranged that. I even spent some time with Tami and Trevor. By the end of the night, I was fine with her dating him. He was a nice kid, but Tami wouldn’t be with him long-term. The guys were happy on the way home and teased me about losing my date.

Their teasing didn’t bother me because Tracy was waiting for me when I got home. All thoughts of Missy fled my mind once Tracy got ahold of me. The dance turned out better than I expected. All the guys had fun. Jennie had proven once again that we would never get together. Tami’s new boyfriend was okay, and I made a new friend in Missy. Life was good.

Chapter 25 – Let’s Not Kill Her

Friday December 20

MISSY STONE WAS STANDING at her dorm room door in a silk robe. It was obvious from her robe that she wasn’t wearing a bra. If I were a betting man, I would be ‘all in’ on her being naked under her robe. She gave me a Mona Lisa smile.

“What are you doing here? I thought you had a girlfriend?”

What was I doing here? I loved Tracy and would never do anything to hurt her, but something about Missy drew me to her like a moth to a flame. I couldn’t help myself, and was afraid I was about to get burnt. I didn’t answer her question. I stepped forward and gave her a tentative kiss. Her hands came up and pushed me away.

“David, we can’t do this,” she said with a sexy growl.

I kissed her again, this time more forcefully. Missy tried to fight me off, but I pulled her into my arms, and she surrendered to me and moaned into my kiss. I licked her lips and they parted. Our tongues began to wrestle and the passion began to rise. Part of my brain watched this car wreck in slow motion. I broke our kiss, took her hand, and led her into her room. I closed the door behind us and turned to find Missy in all her naked glory with her robe pooled at her feet.

She was magnificent. She was everything I wanted in a woman. I was amazed that her breasts could sit so high on her chest and not sag. She reminded me of a young Adrienne with her sexy curves. Her green eyes bored into my soul.

“Someone has too many clothes on,” she said.

She came to me and unbuttoned my shirt. She kissed my chest as each button was opened. My heart beat so hard I could hear the blood rush in my ears. She continued to open my shirt until she was at my navel and then stuck her tongue into it. I shivered and had goosebumps appear all over my body. She undid my pants and they fell to the floor. My underwear soon followed. In my lust-hazed mind, I grabbed the back of her head and pushed deep into her mouth.
