The reply is simple. I have tried. But with the others I have not been successful.

When I made the drawing of the baobabs I was carried beyond myself by the inspiring force of urgent necessity.

О Маленький принц!
Bit by bit I came to understand the secrets of your sad little life...
Понемногу я понял также, как печальна и однообразна была твоя жизнь.
For a long time you had found your only entertainment in the quiet pleasure of looking at the sunset.
Долгое время у тебя было лишь одно развлечение - ты любовался закатом.
I learned that new detail on the morning of the fourth day, when you said to me:
Я узнал об этом наутро четвертого дня, когда ты сказал:
"I am very fond of sunsets.
- Я очень люблю закат.
Come, let us go look at a sunset now."
Пойдем посмотрим, как заходит солнце.
"But we must wait," I said.
- Ну, придется подождать.
"Wait? For what?"
- Чего ждать?
"For the sunset. We must wait until it is time."
- Чтобы солнце зашло.
At first you seemed to be very much surprised. And then you laughed to yourself.
Сначала ты очень удивился, а потом засмеялся над собою и сказал:
You said to me: "I am always thinking that I am at home!"
- Мне все кажется, что я у себя дома!
Just so.
И в самом деле.
Everybody knows that when it is noon in the United States the sun is setting over France.
Все знают, что, когда в Америке полдень, во Франции солнце уже заходит.
If you could fly to France in one minute, you could go straight into the sunset, right from noon.
И если бы за одну минуту перенестись во Францию, можно было бы полюбоваться закатом.
Unfortunately, France is too far away for that.
К несчастью, до Франции очень, очень далеко.
But on your tiny planet, my little prince, all you need do is move your chair a few steps.
А на твоей планетке тебе довольно было передвинуть стул на несколько шагов.
You can see the day end and the twilight falling whenever you like...
И ты опять и опять смотрел на закатное небо, стоило только захотеть...
"One day," you said to me, "I saw the sunset forty-four times!"
- Однажды я за один день видел заход солнца сорок три раза!
And a little later you added:
И немного погодя ты прибавил:
"You know - one loves the sunset, when one is so sad..."
- Знаешь... когда очень грустно, хорошо поглядеть, как заходит солнце...
"Were you so sad, then?" I asked, "on the day of the forty-four sunsets?"
- Значит, в тот день, когда ты видел сорок три заката, тебе было очень грустно?
But the little prince made no reply.
Но Маленький принц не ответил.

On the fifth day - again, as always, it was thanks to the sheep - the secret of the little prince's life was revealed to me.
На пятый день, опять-таки благодаря барашку, я узнал секрет Маленького принца.
Abruptly, without anything to lead up to it, and as if the question had been born of long and silent meditation on his problem, he demanded:
Он спросил неожиданно, без предисловий, точно пришел к этому выводу после долгих молчаливых раздумий:
"A sheep - if it eats little bushes, does it eat flowers, too?"
- Если барашек ест кусты, он и цветы ест?
"A sheep," I answered, "eats anything it finds in its reach."
- Он ест все, что попадется.
"Even flowers that have thorns?"
- Даже такие цветы, у которых шипы?
"Yes, even flowers that have thorns."
- Да, и те, у которых шипы.
"Then the thorns - what use are they?"
- Тогда зачем шипы?
I did not know.
Этого я не знал.
At that moment I was very busy trying to unscrew a bolt that had got stuck in my engine.
Я был очень занят: в моторе заело один болт, и я старался его отвернуть.
I was very much worried, for it was becoming clear to me that the breakdown of my plane was extremely serious. And I had so little drinking-water left that I had to fear for the worst.
Мне было не по себе, положение становилось серьезным, воды почти не осталось, и я начал бояться, что моя вынужденная посадка плохо кончится.
