“It would appear that you are no longer able to speak,” the Beast King said, the slitted pupils traveling down to where his waist was pinned beneath the spire.
“So, all I ask is that you nod your head. I will take that as confirmation. So, tell me young Shah, do you want me to save your life for the third time?”
Even through the fog of pain, Koya could tell that this held some significance. He’d already been saved by the Beast King twice before. If he accepted his help again, he would most likely be stuck serving him for the rest of his life. Then again, if he didn’t accept, he would die here and now.
Ever so slowly, Koya raised his chin a fraction of an inch and lowered it.
“Excellent,” the Beast King replied, his enlarged canines showing against the shadowed face. “Now I should warn you. This will hurt quite a bit. But do not worry, I promise it will be worth the pain in the end.”
Koya’s eyes widened as the shadow above him seemed to grow until it blotted out the very heavens themselves. The last thing he heard before the pain made consciousness desert him, was the sickening sound of tearing flesh and crunching bone.
