Популярным упражнением является переход в положение сидя из положения лежа. Однако многие больные не в состоянии выполнить это упражнение из-за слабости мышц брюшного пресса. Поскольку мышцы действуют более мощно и с меньшими усилиями при растяжении, чем при сокращении, больному лучше вначале сесть, полностью откинувшись назад, а затем медленно подниматься, согнув колени, чтобы разгрузить подвздошно-поясничную мышцу, если она также поражена. Эти упражнения описаны и проиллюстрированы на рис. 49.13 тома 1 и у Travell и Simons [161]. После упражнений, сопровождающихся сгибанием туловища, например, при переходе из положения лежа в положение сидя, следует выполнить ряд движений, направленных на разгибание позвоночника, чтобы защитить межпозвоночные диски от повреждения [103].
