И все же, после двух тысяч лет, сомнения их не покидали. Они смотрели на спящего ребенка, который был таким же, как все дети, — этакий маленький придурковатый У. К. Филдс,[91] который запрыщавел, начав выпивать раньше положенного срока.
И Балтазар пробормотал:
— По мне так горшок с золотом ничуть не хуже.
И Каспар сказал:
— Полагаешь, после двух тысяч лет кто-нибудь наконец подаст мне стул?
И Мельхиор подытожил все их надежды и мечты о лучшем мире словами:
— Знаете, Забавно, но он совсем не похож на еврея.
